GLOBAL EXPERIENCE
PEACE CORPS | GUYANA | 2018
In June of 2018, I will begin my service with the Peace Corps in Guyana serving as a Primary Literacy Promoter. Peace Corps Guyana's literacy project is focused on improving communities' development opportunities by strengthening childhood literacy programs. I will be working with students to improve reading skills, helping teachers integrate innovative teaching practices in the classroom, and involving parents and the community in promoting literacy and learning.
GIVE VOLUNTEERS | LAOS | Summer 2016
My international experience involved a volunteer abroad trip with the international organization, Growth International Volunteer Excursions (GIVE Volunteers) in Laos through which we partnered with our host community of Sop Chem to implement a vital freshwater system. The village was suffering a drastic water shortages but through asset-based community development, the solution that was formulated was to pipe through 6 kilometers of dense jungle to the region's only adequate freshwater source and constructing a 20,000 liter tank out of 4,000 re-purposed plastic bottles. Moreover, during our stay we worked with our Education Coordinator to plan and deliver English lessons to the children of the village in a classroom setting.
