PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Teaching English as a Second Language Internship
University of Florida
Spring 2018

During this semester, I was interning as an English as a Second Language Teacher to Visiting Scholars at the University of Florida. I had the opportunity to connect with Visiting Scholars from various countries in Asia, South America, and the Middle East. Throughout the internship, I collaborated with a partner to design course appropriate lesson plans as well as instructional activities for the students in order to facilitate their use and understanding of the English Language. Learning material included the use of PowerPoint, activities involving daily situational contexts, and the incorporation of silent movies to promote speaking proficiency. Moreover, it also required the developing and implementing of assessment measures to evaluate student learning and achievement. This experience enabled me to build upon my ability to teach lesson content while effectively managing the learning environment and forming lasting relationships with my students.

Public Speaking and Writing Tutor
Gainesville, FL
Spring 2018

I am working as tutor to a group of elementary students with an emphasis on  integrating effective presentation as well as writing in a project-based, collaborative learning setting in order to the provide the students with fundamental critical thinking skills. Critical thinking is accentuated through a focus on debate in which the students actively and skillfully conceptualize, apply, analyze, and evaluate information to reach an answer or conclusion. It teaches them the skills of researching, organizing, and presenting information in a compelling fashion. The students attend Williams Elementary Gifted Magnet Program (STEAM-based) and the tutoring sessions serve as manner of complementing this education by providing the students with the tools to elucidate their thoughts and ideas through rhetorical eloquence. I began this tutoring program with a partner and we worked efficiently to develop the curriculum as well as the assessments appropriate for the students.

Standardized Patient
University of Florida’s Anaclerio Learning and Assessment Center
August 2016 - May 2018

As a standardized patient, I worked with the University of Florida's Medical School students for the training and assessment of their clinical skills as well as professionalism. Each standardized patient encounter is designed to teach or evaluate skills appropriate to the student’s level of training. Evaluations ranged from Physical Training Objective Structured Clinical Examinations to conducting routine medical history interviews or aorta ultrasounds. This position required  a familiarity and recognition of the characteristics defining professionalism as well as a degree of impartiality, consistency, and adaptability. Moreover, it refined my knowledge of specific medical terminology in preparation for the physical examination done by the medical students.
